Bio

She has always lived in Bologna but considers herself a citizen of the world. Born in 1962 in 1990 she graduated in Architecture in Florence .
She is a photographer with passion, training himself as a self-taught person and attending amateur courses.
In January 2020 she exhibited for the first time unpublished works in Paratissima Bologna entitled "Incidenti",  with which he made her debut in public for the first time. The NEEDS theme is interpreted by Simona in the strong contrast between the theme of the selfie as neurosis and digital narcissism and a car accident that leads the victim to take a last selfie on the verge of death. Click and I'm on stage. Repeat this first experience by exhibiting the work “covi-tude (covid-solitude) at Paratissima Turin 2021 with images all taken during the first lock down that form a narrative in four parts.
Before starting photography as an artist, she always photographed the reality that surrounded her. Since 2015, following an exhibition visited on Helmut Newton, defined as his mentor, she began to use the self-portrait technique to express her art. Since then she has developed several works ranging from nude-boudoir photographs to photography that faces different themes updating them through her free artistic interpretation, remaining anchored to conceptual and surreal photography.
The images are completed with the creation of a video to which it associates a sound. His choice can fall on a melody, on instrumental pieces or on real noises taken from the outside world, thus creating an interesting synergy between images and sounds.
She is inspired, although detaching myself from it, by the great artists such as Helmut Newton from whom I learned to face fashion and the nude without making the images vulgar, even if his almost maniacal research into the position of the model does not belong to me. As for my artistic sensibility She feel close to Cindy Sherman for the use of costumes and disguises, and to Francesca Woodman in her affinity to hide her face, in her relationship with the question of her own body, with sensuality, and in it starts with alienation and isolation.
The desire as a child to be a boy and the matured awareness of the luck of being female, a theme that touched me personally in my childhood and adolescence, enters my photographs, sometimes with arrogance in nude photos and sometimes in silence with small steps .

Artist Statement

The technique used in most of my images is the self-timer, not so much intended at the service of the self-portrait but with the purpose of research and expression of the self. My artistic process develops in the immediacy of thought, and more rarely days after the maturation of the idea.  I don't build particular defined and well-finished photographic sets, I don't wait for the right light; I choose the place, the dress / dresses, and click. All in the immediacy of the moment driven by an inner urgency.

Then I combine a video with the photographic works with an audio that is part of my creative process, often combining sounds taken from the reality that surrounds me. The "noise" is for me a disturbing element, but stimulating and strongly intervenes in the visual.

I am inspired, although detaching myself from it, by the great artists such as Helmut Newton from whom I learned to face fashion and the nude without making the images vulgar, even if his almost maniacal research into the position of the model does not belong to me. As for my artistic sensibility I feel close to Cindy Sherman for the use of costumes and disguises, and to Francesca Woodman in my affinity to hide her face, in her relationship with the question of her own body, with sensuality, and in it starts with alienation and isolation.

The self-portrait as an investigation of the self, an approximation to the knowledge of one's own ego destined not to find definitive answers.

My approach with the self-portrait puts fashion into play with its self-imposed aesthetic canons, contrasting my personal taste with the affectivity in the choice of clothes for my mother and grandmother who are no longer with me.

The desire as a child to be a boy and the matured awareness of the luck of being female, a theme that touched me personally in my childhood and adolescence, enters my photographs, sometimes with arrogance in nude photos and sometimes in silence with small steps .
